This quarterly initially began as a Thesis written by James S. Davidson while on a fellowship from Mt. St. Joseph Academy. The issue opens with the initial chapter. Three
additional chapters will follow in the future. Entitled “Rutland Vermont 1770-1791” it earned a Masters of Arts degree in History from the University of Kansas in 1974.
This opening segment focuses on the early settlement of Rutland and its problems from 170-1775, described in extensive detail. Two maps accompany the text. The first a center fold map, shows the approximate location of earliest land grants; the second, an enclosed fold out, is a copy of the original layout of Rutland in 1790.
There is an additional list of Biographical Back Notes for those interested in further research.
